Uninstalling

To remove WardPane:

sudo /opt/wardpane/uninstall.sh

The script stops and removes the panel service, the root helpers, the per-site PHP and Node.js units and the application in /opt/wardpane, including what updates leave behind (/opt/wardpane.new, .prev, .failed). It also removes a leftover Small Web Panel 1.x installation if there is one.

Your site files in /var/www stay where they are; the script never deletes them.

Removing everything

sudo /opt/wardpane/uninstall.sh --purge

With --purge, the data folder (/var/lib/wardpane: certificates and settings), the update backups in /var/backups/wardpane, the old copies of the data (<DATA_DIR>.failed-*, .before-restore-*), the panel user wardpane and the site users (www-root, wp_<id>) are removed as well. --purge also returns ownership of the site folders, following their real paths and never following symlinks inside /var/www.

What stays on the server

Without --purge, the data folder /var/lib/wardpane with the certificates and settings, the update backups and the Linux users wardpane, www-root and wp_<id> stay, so a later install picks them up again.

Some things stay in both cases. Site files in /var/www are never touched. Node.js, which the installer put on the server for the panel itself, stays installed, and so do the PHP packages if you installed PHP; remove them with apt if you no longer need them. Of the ufw rules, only the one for the panel port 1500 is removed: SSH, 80 and 443 stay open. The Node.js builds downloaded for sites (/opt/wardpane-runtimes) are always removed.

Before you uninstall

  • Export the sites with their settings (see export and import) if you might move them to another server.
  • Download any data your PHP or Node.js apps keep outside the site folders, for example databases.
  • If DNS for your domains is served by this server, move the zones elsewhere first (see DNS).
