2.0.0

Small Web Panel is now called WardPane. Paths, services and users move to the new name: /opt/wardpane, /var/lib/wardpane, wardpane.service and site users wp_<id>. The new install.sh takes over a 1.x install in place. It backs everything up, renames users and folders with the same uid and gid, and returns to 1.x by itself if WardPane does not start. uninstall.sh removes both the old and the new names.

Each site now has a handler: none (static files), PHP or Node.js. When you switch, the settings of the other handlers are kept, so switching back restores them. Sites from 1.x keep working as before.

For a Node.js site you choose a Node.js major (20, 22, 24 or 26), an npm script or an entry file, environment variables, memory and CPU limits, and whether to block outgoing connections. The apps of one site owner run under one PM2 daemon in a systemd sandbox. Node.js builds come from nodejs.org when a site needs them and are checked against the published SHA256 sums. Files in public/ can be served directly; other requests, WebSockets included, go to the app with the real visitor IP after the same protection checks as on any site. Restart, npm install and the logs are in the panel.

New sites belong to an owner, a Linux user (www-root by default), and live in an ISPmanager-like layout at /var/www/<owner>/data/www/<domain>. Sites from 1.x stay in their folders.

The interface was redone. The sites table shows the handler with its version, the certificate term, the status and the protection that is on, and each row has a menu with the site’s actions and an on/off switch. A site opens as a page with the tabs General, Handler, SSL and Advanced. The create-site dialog asks for the handler, and the Runtimes page lists the PHP and Node.js versions. The global blocklist, the crawler IP lists and the IP lookup moved to Advanced, Security.

The panel has a terminal in the browser: a root terminal in a session signed in as root, and the owner’s terminal, which opens in the site folder. A Create Cloudflare token button opens Cloudflare’s API token page with the needed permissions already selected.

Databases, the site config file, OS users, Simple and Expert modes, DNS and mail are on the roadmap.

Before 2.0

Version 1.0.0 came out as Small Web Panel: static sites, automatic Let’s Encrypt certificates, per-site protection and Cloudflare support. Over the 1.x releases it gained PHP with a sandbox per site, .htaccess support, settings in the panel, link-only access, sign-in as root, a new interface in English and Russian, and country groups for geo rules. The last of them was 1.5.0. With 2.0 the panel was renamed WardPane.
