Terms of use

Version 1.1Updated

These Terms of use apply to the website wardpane.com, its subdomains (including cdn.wardpane.com) and the download service, including the install script at https://wardpane.com/install (together, the “Site”).

The Site is operated by WardPane Community (“we”, “us”), the group of developers behind the WardPane open source project. We handle all requests by email at [email protected], and reports of vulnerabilities at [email protected].

By using the Site or downloading WardPane you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Site.

1. What the Site offers

  • Information about WardPane, a free hosting control panel, and its documentation.
  • Downloads of WardPane release archives, either through a one-time link sent by email or through the install script that asks for an email confirmation code.
  • An optional newsletter about releases and security fixes.

2. The software license

WardPane itself is free software licensed under the GNU Affero General Public License, version 3 (AGPL-3.0). Your rights to use, study, change and share the software come from that license, not from these Terms. These Terms do not limit any right the AGPL-3.0 gives you.

The software is free and provided “as is”, without any warranty to the extent the law allows, as described in sections 15 and 16 of the AGPL-3.0. You are responsible for the servers you install it on, for backups and for the sites you host.

3. Downloads

  • To download, you give a working email address and accept these Terms and the Privacy policy, and you give the separate Consent to the processing of personal data.
  • A download link is valid for 24 hours and for one download. It is tied to the first IP address that uses it; resuming an interrupted download from the same address is allowed.
  • An email confirmation code for the install script is valid for 15 minutes and 5 attempts.
  • Do not share links or codes, and do not try to get around the limits on requests, links or codes.
  • Each release archive is published with its SHA-256 checksum on wardpane.com. Check the checksum before running an archive from any other source.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • attack, overload or probe the Site, except under the rules of our security page for reporting vulnerabilities;
  • use automated means to request download links or codes in bulk;
  • use another person’s email address without their permission;
  • use the Site in breach of the law that applies to you.

We may limit or block access to the Site for addresses or accounts that break these rules.

5. Newsletter

The newsletter is optional. You subscribe only by ticking the box and confirming the subscription from the email we send. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. Separately from the newsletter, we may send you important notices about security problems in a version you downloaded.

6. Content and trademarks

The text, design and images of the Site belong to WardPane Community unless stated otherwise. Product names of other companies mentioned on the Site, including on the comparison page, are trademarks of their owners and are used only to identify those products.

7. Availability and liability

We work to keep the Site available and correct, but we do not promise that it is always available, free of errors or up to date. Information on the comparison page reflects public sources on the date shown there.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect damages or for loss of data, profit or business that results from using the Site or the software. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as liability for intent or, where the law requires it, gross negligence, or rights you have as a consumer.

8. Changes

We publish new versions of these Terms on the Site with a new version number and date, shown at the top of this page. When you request a download, we record which version you accepted. Changes do not apply to downloads made before them.

9. Law and disputes

These Terms are governed by Swiss law. Before you go to court, raise the dispute with us by email at [email protected] and give us 30 days to resolve it. If it is not resolved, it goes to the competent courts under the applicable rules. The mandatory consumer protection rules of your country of residence stay unaffected.
